You can actively defend for yourself and characters other than yourself, averting or diverting attacks against them or you at a distance. See the Defend action in Actions for details. You add your Avert rank as an active defense when you use the defend action for yourself and those within Short range of you. If you Avert at greater ranges, you suffer Disadvantage on your check. Range is Measured from you to any point between the target of the attack you are deflecting and the attacker.

EXTRAS
Action: Because it requires the defend action, Avert typically takes a standard action. You can take this extra to decrease the action type required to take the Defend action to a Move Action, then to a Quick Action, or Finally down to a Reaction. Only Characters with this Extra on this Edge can perform the defend action as a quicker action. +1 to +3 cost per rank

Reflect: You can reflect attacks back at the attacker as a free action. First, you must successfully Avert the attack, then make a normal attack check using your own attack modifier to hit with the reflected attack. It has its normal effect if it hits. +1 cost per rank

Redirect: You can redirect attacks you successfully Avert at any target within the attack’s normal range, as Reflect, above. You must have the Reflect extra to take this one. +1 cost per rank
