Enhance Trait

ENHANCE TRAIT (ALTERATION)

Name Type Action Range Duration Resistance Base Cost
Enhance Trait Alteration Quick Personal Sustained - As base trait

You can use a Quick action to temporarily improve a Trait, like an Ability, Skill, Proficiency, Edge, Defense, Resistance, or another Trait. You cannot use the Enhance Trait effect to improve the Tier Trait or other Effects. Choose which Trait is enhanced when you configure the effect. While this Effect is sustained, you increase the affected Trait by its rank. This is typically expressed as Advantage on rolls using the affected Trait.

The cost of Enhance Trait is the same per rank as acquiring a rank in the affected Trait, or Traits. The key differences are that Enhance Trait is a power Effect, rather than a natural Trait, and as an Effect it can be combined with other Effects. Enhanced Traits are still limited by campaign level limits, but have their own separate limit. Enhanced Skills and Proficiencies are handled as ranks of Advantage, and not actual ranks. Enhance Trait can be used to gain Ranks in Edges as well, however the combined Ranks cannot exceed the campaign level.

EXTRAS
Permanent: Your Enhance Trait is a Permanent improvement, rather than a sustained effect. The primary difference is that your Permanent enhancement cannot be turned on and off. There is no action to use a Permanent Enhance Trait, as it is always active. +0 cost per rank

Variable: You can change what Trait is improved with the Enhance Trait Effect whenever you use this Effect, using the base cost to determine effective power points per rank of the new Trait chosen. +1 cost per rank

FLAWS
Limited: Enhance Trait is often Limited in some way, like Nighttime or Daytime Only, While Angry or experiencing some other emotion, Underwater or in some other environment, and so forth. A limit that rarely comes into play—like losing your Enhance Trait during a new moon—is either worth just 1 or 2 points flat or may be handled as a Power Loss complication. -1 cost per rank

Reduced Trait: One or more traits is lowered while others are enhanced. This flaw is worth as many points as the reduction in the affected trait(s). So, for example, if you lose Intellect while you gain in Strength, treat the value of the lost Intellect ranks as the value of the flaw. As with all flaws, the effect must still cost at least 1 character point unless approved by the GM. Flat -1 × (the cost of the reduced trait)
